Pars Injection
A pars injection is performed on patients who carry the diagnosis of spondylolisthesis, a condition in which a vertebra slips out of place by moving either backward or forward as compared to the adjacent vertebra. A pars injection is performed to determine if the back pain is coming from the affected area and if so, local anesthetic and steroid can be delivered in an attempt to alleviate the inflammation. The injection is performed under x-ray guidance and contrast dye is injected prior to the deposition of medication to ensure that the needle is in the correct place.
